Harosheth Haggoyim
חֲרֹשֶׁת הַגּוֹיִם · “Haroshet Hagoyim” on the map
Where was biblical Harosheth Haggoyim? Probably at el-Ahwat, near Katzir by Nahal Iron, about 35 km south of Haifa. I mark it debated. The case for the main rival site is below.
Sisera, Jabin's general, rolled out his 900 iron chariots from here to crush Israel. The Kishon flooded, the chariots bogged down, and Barak chased the survivors all the way back to Harosheth.

How we know where it was
The Tanach gives very little to go on. The name appears only in this one story, as Sisera's home base. It does not survive on any site, and no inscription names it. So any answer is a proposal.
The map follows the archaeologist who excavated el-Ahwat, a fortified site on a ridge above Nahal Iron. It was a short-lived fortified town of the 12th century BCE with unusual walls and corridor-like structures. He compared them to buildings on Sardinia and suggested an enclave of the Sea Peoples, perhaps the Sherden. That would explain two odd details in the text. Sisera's name doesn't sound Semitic. And Harosheth hagoyim means Harosheth of the nations, a place of foreigners. A bronze chariot linchpin turned up at the site as well.
The excavator was careful. He called the identification possible, not proven. Critics point out that the Sherden pottery you would expect is missing, and they dispute his dating.
Older proposals put Harosheth at Tell el-'Amr, where the Kishon leaves the Jezreel Valley toward Acco. Others read the name as a region rather than a town, the forest land or the farmland of the nations.
Visiting today
El-Ahwat's stone walls and corridors can be reached on foot along marked trails in the Nahal Iron area near Katzir.
